Infidelity, boredom, roaming eyes, routine: building a relationship with strong foundations will help you get through both the good and the difficult times together. Be mindful however that it can be all too easy to fall into a rut, especially if one or both of you are going through a tough time. Following these tips could help you keep the spark alive, lever yourself out of that rut and ensure the absence of infidelity.
Although seemingly obvious, being honest can often be difficult, particularly when protecting one’s partner. Try not to take that route. Keeping secrets or downplaying feelings of hurt/fears/stress, and the like, can end up driving a wedge between you, while sharing your problems could be the best thing you ever do. One great idea is to start by asking them not to offer solutions., it’s human nature to want to solve a problem, however this often stifles conversation and, in instances where you simply need to be heard, may cause unnecessary friction. Through reciprocity your relationship could transform.
Keep The Magic Alive:
Settling into a routine is more than likely after the initial weeks or months, especially if you move in together or start a family. Having a date night is one way to make sure you spend time together, just the two of you. It doesn’t matter if you stay at home or go out, just take the time to catch up with each other. Even if you can only manage one afternoon/evening a month, it could make a big difference.
Share The Chores:
This can become a source of frustration if one of you consistently does more of the chores than the other. Whether you split things up in a rota, by mutual agreement, or pick things out of a hat, make it even. Ensuring equity will result in the work being done and the removal of a reason to quarrel.
Check In Regularly:
When was the last time you asked your partner how they are and then took the time to listen to the answer? Do you know what’s going on in your partner’s life that doesn’t involve you: if they are doing well; or struggling at work? Has that home or garden project they started to have some fun become a nightmare? These are the small things in life that can grow to huge problems if you don’t check in with each other.
When they are sharing these things with you, and vice versa, then there’s no need to go and find another listening ear. Don’t take each other for granted, talk to each other, listen to each other and you’ll both feel better for it.
Keep Sex On The Menu:
When you’ve been a couple for longer than a couple of months sex sometimes falls off the menu. Making love is important in a relationship to show each other how you feel. You don’t need to have sex constantly, and a busy life or children can make that impossible. Just don’t let it disappear and the chances of infidelity will be significantly lessened.
Ultimately, building a relationship that lasts takes time, effort and perhaps a little luck. These tips may help you avoid some of the obvious pitfalls that could lead you, or your partner, to stray. They will almost certainly help you strengthen your relationship. Remember to have a little fun together, which can only be a good thing.
